Valeda Light Therapy

Supporting Your Macular Health With Gentle Light Therapy

Changes in your vision can feel unsettling, especially when tasks you once did effortlessly – reading, recognising faces, seeing fine detail – start to take more effort.
If you’ve been told you have Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Dry AMD), you may also feel unsure about what that really means and what can help.

At Sukhi Eyes, our role is to guide you with clarity, compassion and evidence-led care.
One of the latest advances in supporting Dry AMD is the Valeda Light Delivery System – a gentle, non-invasive therapy designed for the macula.

What Is Dry AMD?

Dry AMD affects the macula, the area of the eye responsible for central, detailed vision.
As we age, the cells in this region can become thinner and less efficient. You may notice:

  • Blurred or fuzzy vision
  • Difficulty reading
  • Reduced contrast, especially in low light
  • Trouble recognising faces
  • A need for brighter lighting

Dry AMD progresses gradually. It does not cause complete blindness, but it can significantly affect everyday life and independence.

Introducing Valeda Light Therapy

Valeda is a light-based treatment designed for people with Dry AMD.
It uses photobiomodulation (PBM) – gentle pulses of yellow, red and near-infrared light that aim to support the health of retinal cells.

These wavelengths have been shown to:

  • Help improve cellular energy
  • Support healthier retinal metabolism
  • Reduce oxidative stress
  • Encourage better macular function over time

Valeda is the first FDA-authorised light therapy of its kind for Dry AMD.

What Does Valeda Treatment Involve?

Valeda treatment is simple and comfortable:

  • Sessions are short and non-invasive

  • There are no injections and no recovery time

  • You sit in front of the device while light is delivered safely to the eyes

  • A full course is 9 sessions per eye, typically over 3–5 weeks

Who Is Valeda Suitable For?

Valeda may be suitable if you have Dry AMD in the intermediate stage, which can include:

  • Medium or large drusen

  • Early, non-central geographic atrophy

  • Gradual changes in central clarity

Your suitability is always confirmed after a detailed macular assessment at Sukhi Eyes.
We’ll explain your current stage clearly and discuss the most appropriate care plan for your needs.

How Effective Is Valeda?

While Valeda isn’t a cure for AMD, clinical studies have shown promising benefits, including improvements in visual clarity for some patients and signs of healthier retinal cell function.
Results vary from person to person, and Valeda works best as part of a longer-term care plan, but for the right patients, it can offer meaningful support for everyday vision.
